Alexa's search results

We have snazzed up Alexa's search results with Site Information balloons. Just roll your mouse over the little blue "Site Information" buttons, located next to each search result, and a balloon will open with loads of info about the site. Roll your mouse away and the balloon closes. This new tool is just one of the many ways that Alexa is making web search smarter and easier. Enjoy!

Alexa's directory

When you are using the Alexa web site to browse through Alexa's directory you can search too. This is a great way to narrow down your search and get just the best results. For example, you could browse into Computers > Software, and then search for "accounting" from there.

The enterprising folks at TouchGraph have put together a unique and interesting tool that they call the "Alexa Browser." It allows you to surf Alexa's related links in a super cool 3-D Java applet.

Pop Up Manager

The Alexa Toolbar Version 7 is available with Pop Up Manager. We are excited about this new toolbar. It is faster, better, and by far the most useful toolbar we've ever made. Take a quick tour.

Version 7

We have been busy for the last month or so preparing the next version of the Alexa Toolbar, Version 7, for public beta. It's finally here and it has a pop up manager built-in. The goal of the Alexa Toolbar has always been to make surfing the web a better experience, and eliminating pop up ads goes a long way toward that end. We also spent a lot of time making speed improvements to this version of the toolbar. If you are one of the many people who gave up on the toolbar due to speed issues, you might want to try again. Get the new beta toolbar here.

Alexa has had a massive crawl index for years...  The crawl has been as large, and sometimes larger, than Google. But we've never used the crawl as part of a search engine - until today. Now, we are using Alexa's crawl index to supplement the Google search results. When Google comes up short, with 20 results or less, the Alexa index will be called into action and provide supplemental results. We don't expect the new Alexa Index to set the world on fire just yet. Yes, it is big. Very big, in fact. But it is still very primitive and unable to support most advanced queries. There is no independent interface into the Alexa Index. If you want to see it, you will have to type in a query in the Alexa Search box that challenges Google. It is hard to find a query where Google has less than 20 results, but fun. Give it a try

Certified Site

We have some exciting new developments for webmasters and web site owners. Alexa's new Certified Site Information service allows webmasters to post Alexa's information about their site on their site... kind of like a web award, showing traffic rank and other stuff, including traffic comparison graphs. If you have good Alexa stats, this is a great way to show it off.

We have also released the Alexa XML records Feed. This new service allows other search engines, directories, news services, etc., to incorporate Alexa's records into their content. The XML Feed is very reasonably priced and will be a great addition to a lot of different sites. Keep an eye out for Alexa records appearing on a site near you very soon!

Open Directory

Alexa has a new homepage. We have been working on integrating the Open Directory for a while now and are very excited to show it off. Now you can browse through subjects to see the most popular sites and read reviews in the world's largest directory. Click around, there's LOTS to see!

A lot has happened at Alexa over the last year.

Traffic Details

We have just released Alexa's New Traffic Details page. Along with the Traffic Graph, this new page provides much more detailed traffic rankings. The ranking information includes Reach (number of users), Reach Rank, Page Views, Page Views Rank and Page Views per User. While not for everybody, this extra level of detail has been on Alexa's to-do list for years and has been a very common request from some of Alexa's most avid users. Enjoy!
